Selling Through Agents Without Losing Control: B2B Distribution for Venues and Attractions

Selling Through Agents Without Losing Control B2B Distribution for Venues and Attractions

For most venues, shows, and attractions in Thailand, a large share of business doesn’t come from a customer finding you directly. It comes through agents: the hotel concierge who recommends your show, the tour desk that sells your attraction as part of a day out, the reseller who moves blocks of tickets to groups. This agent network is genuinely valuable, and in a market as tourism-driven as Thailand’s it’s often the difference between a full house and a quiet night. But it’s also where a lot of venues quietly lose control of their pricing, their commissions, and their numbers.

After twenty years working with attraction and ticketing systems here, I’ve watched countless venues run their agent business on a tangle of spreadsheets, WhatsApp messages, and trust. Blocks of tickets handed out on credit and reconciled from memory. Commissions calculated by hand and argued over later. No clear view of which agent actually drove which sale. It works, just about, until it doesn’t, and it leaks money and time the whole way through. The alternative is to run your agent distribution through a proper system, and it changes the economics of the whole channel. Let me explain how, and why it’s different from simply listing on the global OTAs.

Agents Are Not the Same as OTAs

First, a distinction that matters, because these two channels get lumped together and shouldn’t be. Listing your attraction on global platforms like Viator, GetYourGuide, or Klook is one kind of distribution, reaching international travellers browsing those marketplaces, and we’ve written separately about connecting to those channels. Your own agent network is a different thing entirely: the hotels, tour desks, and resellers who sell your venue directly to the guests in front of them, on your behalf, usually for a commission.

This B2B agent channel is often your highest-value distribution, because these agents are recommending you to a captive, ready-to-buy audience: a hotel guest asking the concierge what to do tonight, a tour group looking for an evening activity. The problem is rarely that agents don’t sell, it’s that most venues have no proper system to manage them, so the channel runs on trust and paperwork and leaks value at every step. Getting this channel under control is one of the highest-return things a venue can do, and it has nothing to do with the global OTAs.

Give Every Agent Their Own Portal

The foundation of controlled agent distribution is giving each agent their own dedicated login rather than managing them all through messages and manual allocations. In our attraction system, every agent gets their own portal where they can check live availability, make bookings, and manage their orders directly, without your team acting as a middleman for every transaction.

This single change removes an enormous amount of friction and error. The agent sees what’s genuinely available and books it themselves, so you’re not fielding constant availability requests or discovering too late that two agents sold the same block. The booking enters your system directly, correctly attributed, so there’s never a question later about who sold what. Your team stops being a manual booking desk for the agent channel and starts simply overseeing it. For a busy venue working with dozens of hotels and tour operators, that shift alone is transformative.

Track Every Sale to the Right Agent Automatically

The commission argument is the one that poisons agent relationships, and it’s almost always a data problem rather than a dishonesty problem. When sales are tracked by hand, it’s genuinely hard to say with certainty which agent drove which booking, and that uncertainty breeds disputes at the end of every month.

A proper system removes the argument by removing the guesswork. Our platform generates unique tracking links and QR codes for each agent, so every sale is automatically attributed to the agent who made it, with no manual logging required. When a hotel concierge sends a guest through their link, that booking is theirs, recorded and attributed the moment it happens. Commission calculation stops being a monthly reconciliation headache and becomes something the system simply knows. The agent trusts the numbers because they’re automatic and transparent, you stop losing hours to reconciliation, and the relationship improves because there’s nothing left to argue about.

Manage Credit and Balances Without the Risk

The other place agent distribution leaks is money owed. Many venues extend credit to trusted agents, letting them sell now and settle later, which is a reasonable way to do business but a dangerous one to run on memory. Balances drift, settlements slip, and occasionally a venue discovers it’s carrying far more agent debt than it realised.

A managed agent system handles this properly, with deposit balance management so each agent’s account, credit, and settlements are tracked automatically. You can see exactly what each agent owes and what they’ve paid, set the terms that suit each relationship, and stop selling to an agent who’s over their limit before it becomes a problem. Combined with automated agent contracts, the whole commercial relationship, the terms, the commission, the credit, the tracking, sits in one place rather than scattered across emails and someone’s memory. You keep the flexibility that makes agents want to work with you, without carrying the risk that flexibility usually brings.

Controlled Distribution Is More Distribution

The venues that manage their agents well don’t sell less through the channel, they sell more, because control and growth go together here. When agents have their own portal, trust the commission tracking, and can transact without friction, they sell your venue more readily and more often. When the whole thing runs on spreadsheets and trust, agents drift to the venues that make it easy, and you spend your time on reconciliation instead of growth.

This is a channel that rewards professionalism. The attraction that gives its agents a proper system to work with becomes the easy one to sell, and in a network where a concierge or tour desk can recommend any number of shows and activities, being the easy one to sell is a real commercial advantage. Across our attraction clients, this kind of managed, connected distribution is part of how venues process thousands of events and over a million bookings a year without the channel collapsing into chaos.

At The Percentage Company, B2B agent distribution is built into our attraction management system, with dedicated agent portals, automatic sale tracking through unique links and codes, deposit and balance management, and automated contracts, all connected to the same platform that handles your seating, entry, payments, and accounting. If your agent business runs on spreadsheets and goodwill, and you suspect it’s leaking value, we’d be glad to show you what a properly managed agent channel looks like.
